Details
The 7.5 mile circular walk starts at The Bluebell Inn, Blue Bell Inn - A Traditional Bar & Restaurant in Lincolnshire Steeped in British Aviation History a traditional Country pub in the village of Tattershall Thorpe in Lincolnshire (often referred to as Bomber County). This beautiful old building dates back to 1257 and is documented as being an Inn since the 16th Century.
During the Second World War, the pub became a favourite off-base rendezvous for Officers and Servicemen from the nearby airfields. The ceiling is covered in signatures of past and present RAF Servicemen.
We walk through the ancient woodlands of Tattershall Carr and Tattershall Thorpe Carr designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest. During the Second World War the woods were used as part of RAF Woodhall Spa. Remains of some of the structures built at the time can still be seen today and part of the base forms the Thorpe Camp. We continue our walk along the banks of the River Witham, past a castle and through a nature reserve back to our starting point.
I have booked a table for Sunday lunch at The Blue Bell pub (dog friendly). Please let me know in the comments if you want to join me. Menu in photos.
