LAUG5 - Identity & Entra Permissions Management w/ Matt Isbell!

Details
Phishing, stolen identities, and weak passwords were the leading causes of data breaches in 2021, placing users and their credentials at the forefront of your network defences. This reality hasn’t caught up with most organizations, though. According to Gartner, companies were predicted to spend $96.3 billion on security in 2021. Yet, only $4.7 billion was supposed to go towards identity and access management, while the rest was supposed to go towards infrastructure protection, network security equipment, security services, and consumer security software. Spending more on segments like security services and infrastructure protection may have been adequate a decade ago, but today’s prevalent cloud-forward IT environments call for an approach that takes identity security more seriously. Those who have experienced a data breach would agree, with 68% of executives acknowledging that a larger investment in identity and access protection could have helped in preventing a breach.
What could the world achieve if we had trust in every digital experience and interaction?
This question has inspired Microsoft to think differently about identity and access, and today, we’re announcing our expanded vision for how we will help provide secure access for our connected world.
Microsoft Entra is our new product family that encompasses all of Microsoft’s identity and access capabilities. The Entra family includes Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), as well as two new product categories: Cloud Infrastructure Entitlement Management (CIEM) and decentralized identity. The products in the Entra family will help provide secure access to everything for everyone, by providing identity and access management, cloud infrastructure entitlement management, and identity verification.
