What we’re about
This is our first Lindy Hop Dance outing at DredSurfer Grill to introduce Lindy Hop - aka Swing Dancing - to this community. Our goals are to propagate New York State’s Official Dance -Lindy Hop, and cultivate a community of Far Rockway Lindy Hoppers among the youth and the folks who are young at heart. We encourage all Newbies to Lindy Hop to come out for the free lesson in front of DredSurfer Grill.
As Black Entrepreneurs, we also get to support Black owned businesses, like DredSurfer Grill Caribbean restaurant, to bolster its economic revival.
There will be a brief lecture about the history of Lindy Hop, followed by a basic Lindy Hop class and music by DJ Ron Jones of Uptown Saturday Night
Minimum Donation is $30.00 per ticket. The first sixty people who donate will get VIP tables and seating inside the DredSurfer Grill, and up to $15 dollar credit toward the purchase of food and beverage from the items on the menu. All donations after sixty people will still get up to $15 dollar credit toward the purchase of food and beverage.
Check-in begins at 2:45PM
Dance instruction begins at 3PM.
Social Dancing runs from 4PM to 7PM.
Participants must wear masks and maintain a safe social distance for the entirety of the event.
This event is hosted and produced by Swingwithusnyc, and Black American Dance Heritage, and the Far Rockaway Education Advocate, Queen Mother Makkada, owner of Queen’s Parents Consultant and Advocacy Services.
