Linguas is a Melbourne language exchange and international social community hosting relaxed weekly events in the Melbourne CBD for locals, international students, travellers, backpackers, expats and young professionals.
This group grew from the Facebook Group which is still very active called Melbourne Lockdown Friends. Friends made during Lockdown. Our Facebook group has been around for a while now, while the meetup is only new since 2026.
Our events are designed for people who want to make friends in Melbourne, practise English, meet internationals, enjoy casual conversations, and be part of a friendly social community without awkward networking or pressure.
At Linguas, you can expect a welcoming mix of people from all over the world, casual drinks, music, language exchange, social games, board games, gaming nights, video game meetups and easy ways to meet new people in Melbourne.
Whether you are new to Melbourne, studying, working, travelling, or simply looking to expand your social circle, Linguas Language Exchange Melbourne is a relaxed and accessible place to connect with others.

This group is hosted by the team behind Intermingle Australia, a growing network of Melbourne social communities and events, including:
- Linguas Language Exchange — weekly language exchange and international social events
- Respawn Gaming Social Club — casual gaming events, retro games and tournaments
- Thought Experiment — small-group, scenario-based discussions exploring ethics, technology and difficult choices
- Sugar & Spice — international parties, cultural events, music and live entertainment
Together, our events are designed to help people meet others, make friends and connect through language, gaming, culture, nightlife and meaningful conversation.

### Important venue update
Linguas Australia no longer runs events at Diesel Bar. Diesel Bar was one of our previous venues.
Our official Linguas Language Exchange Melbourne events have moved to our current Melbourne CBD venues.

🍺 Purchase food or a drink AFTER getting your wristband
OR
🎟️ Pay $5 entry
If you buy food or a drink BEFORE getting your wristband, it does not count towards your Linguas entry and you will still need to pay the $5 entry fee.

We consistently have 200–320 attendees every Thursday (across multiple Meetup groups/Eventbrite/Facebook).
People arrive at different times —
best time to come is between 6PM and 9PM.
Come solo or with friends — most people come alone and join conversations naturally.***

Melbourne’s international community now has a new Saturday night.This is a paid entry event. Entry is $5.
Join us at Alfie’s Bar near Queen Victoria Market for a more energetic, social and party-focused version of our regular Linguas language exchange events.
