Linux / FOSS Meetup Linz #2 | April 11th | Hello Again

Details

We're happy to finally announce that we will have a second meetup on April 11th! As last time, we have two talks by amazing people, food, an awesome location and plenty of like-minded people to talk with.

Thanks to Hello Again for hosting us!

:: TALKS ::
: Michael Schöndorfer - How hello again uses OSS to build and maintain over 1000 Apps :
hello again provides customer loyalty Apps to its clients. This means updating over 1000 Apps regularly, maintaining a Backend for all these apps and monitoring the system. In order to achieve this we use several different OSS tools from Sentry, to Gitlab and Kubernetes. After 7 years we want to share the learnings of what worked well and what probably would do differently.

: Alireza Sadraii Rad - The Wiiz Story: A Fight for Online Freedom :
This is the story of Wiiz. A small group of people started self-hosting open-source services for themselves and others. During Internet disruptions, they showed a way to stay online and connected. This story could happen anywhere, it's about the Matrix protocol and dealing with network disruptions.

After several side gigs during university he got his first real experience growing a startup called indoo.rs from 3 to over 30 employees. Around 7 years ago he started a new challenge at hello again where he could put this experience to good use.

: Alireza SadraiiRad :
☺️ Smiley, friendly developer with a passion for opensource, web, AI.

The Coding Club Linz organizes tech meetups and events in the area of linz. Thanks to Rainer Stropek in particular for the amazing help and kick-starting the meetup!

:: CLOSING INFORMATION ::
To allow as many people as possible to participate, the talks will be held in english, however, in peer-to-peer conversations, you are obviously allowed to speak whatever language you please as long as you don't exclude someone wanting to join with your choice.
If you have anything to tell us, please either join our Discord or contact us through Meetup.

: Call for Speakers - WE WANT YOU! :
If you have any topic to present, regardless of the level, please reach out! We're a always looking for speakers.
To ease the submission process, we use sessionize.
Please submit your talk there!

: Call for Hosts :
If you or your company could host us or you know someone that might, please contact us! We'd love to hold a meetup at your venue.

: Our Website :
We have a website now! You can find it here. It includes notes on past meetups and, as requested by attendees, the slides. Sorry for the long wait!

Note: currently, the site is hosted on GitHub. However, as we are the Linux / FOSS Group Linz, we obviously want to use as little proprietary software as possible. To host the site (and a matrix / IRC as a replacement for Discord), we would need a domain and, ideally, hosting. If you can help with that, please reach out to support us on the journey to a fully free group!
