It pays to learn the ins and outs of your favorite shell and editor to automate all kinds of daily and routine tasks. We'll be covering many features in a powerful shell (bash) and a text editor (emacs) that will allow you to begin--or continue--your journey toward Command Line Ninjadom!
The goal is to get as much as possible done using text and command line tools keeping in mind the the half-century old (and counting) wisdom of Doug McIlroy's UNIX Philosophy: "Write programs to handle text streams, because that is a universal interface."
As with all philosophies, this one is also far from perfect, but it's got something going for it if it's been around since before humans reached the Moon!
