We’re sure you’re aware that something big is about to happen in Lisbon, it’s the Popular Saints festival (Santos populares) of Lisbon. If you’ve never heard of it, here’s a bit more info > https://www.visitportugal.com/en/content/festas-de-lisboa

Let’s do as the Lisboan’s do and get involved. By involved we mean get together, eat fresh, grilled sardines (or a Bifana, if you don’t like sardines), and ordering a drink or two might be tradition as well.

We have a big table for 35 reserved at a local “Arraial” (open air). While we’re there, you can also experience the music of the “Baile”, which is what local parties still look like in many places in Portugal. Make sure you're on time as the organisation will give us 15 minutes to fill our tables, any empty spots will be given away to other guests of the Arraial.

In terms of pricing, it’s unclear what they will charge this year yet, but usually you order platters of Sardines by the dozen and it’s not very expensive. Perhaps expect to spend an average of 15-18 euros per person, depending on our consumption.

It's quite a hidden spot behind a church. Go inside the entrance on the right hand side when you face the church, follow the alleyway and the music. Please be careful with you RSVP, only set it as "I'm coming" if you really are coming, as there are limited spots and especially for people who haven’t experienced the festivities yet, this is a great opportunity to see what the month of June in Lisbon is all about.
