Your Life Is Happening. Are You There for It?
Details
Your days are full. But are you really there?
Maybe you wake up and check your phone, move through your to-do list, answer messages, work, eat, scroll — already thinking about what comes next. And suddenly, another day is over.
You can be there — but how much of it are you actually experiencing?
We all use autopilot. It helps us navigate familiar tasks, routines and habits without having to consciously think about every single action.
But sometimes, without realising it, autopilot starts taking up more and more of our lives.
We often move from one thing to the next while our mind is somewhere else. We react before we notice what we are feeling. We repeat familiar patterns. We keep thinking about what comes next. And experiences that could have been meaningful pass almost unnoticed.
So how do you know when autopilot is driving?
In this COME ALIVE online talk, we'll explore what living on autopilot actually means, some of the everyday signs that can help us recognise it, and why so much of what we do becomes automatic — with a brief look at attention, habits, the brain and the nervous system, without turning the evening into a neuroscience lecture.
And because understanding something intellectually is different from experiencing it, we'll finish with a short practice to explore what changes when we deliberately bring our attention back to the body, the senses and the present moment. There will also be time for questions and conversation.
You don't need any previous experience with mindfulness or meditation. Just join as you are, from wherever you are.
The idea isn't to eliminate autopilot — it has its place. The difference begins when you recognise when it's driving.
