From Black Gold to Liquid Gold: A Gulbenkian Oil Baron's Picnic

Details
Celebrate the journey from Calouste Gulbenkian’s “black gold” empire to Portugal’s “liquid gold”—extra-virgin olive oil—over a leisurely summer picnic in the beautiful Gulbenkian gardens.
“A vida é como azeite no pão—simples mas divina.”
(Life is like olive oil on bread: simple yet divine.)
What to Bring (optional but encouraged!):
- Bread: Your yummiest pão (Pão Alentejano, Broa de Milho, sourdough, ciabatta, etc.)
- Olive Oil: A sample of your favourite azeite for dipping (local Portuguese varieties especially welcome!)
- Picnic Gear: A vibrant blanket, sun hat, sun block, water, and your brightest smile
The Plan:
Anyone who knows the colourful and rich history of Calouste Gulbenkian can feel free to share what they know. We might even get around to discussing why oil still remains a fundamental input into the world economy and should be part of any diversified investment portfolio, despite efforts to transition to renewables.
Pack your blanket and bring your appetite—it’s going to be a deliciously relaxed Saturday afternoon.
Leisurely Stroll?
Optional wander through the Jardim da Gulbenkian.
