Forest Restoration near Azoia - Planting a Native Arvore (Tree)

This event is a morning of working in a Sintra forest area near Azoia to help restore the native habitat.

The photo for this event was from last November 2024 near Azoia. On that morning I volunteered with the NGO (Non-Profit) , Plantar Uma Arvore. First thing we did was pull and cut down an area of invasive Acasia trees. Then we went to another section that had already been cleared, and we cleaned spots on the top soil, dug holes, and planted a native species of trees or bushes.

When you see those green plastic tubes on Sintra mountain that protect newly planted trees and bushes, good chance they were put there during a volunteer event organized by, Plantar Uma Arvore.

Something you can expect to learn:

• Identify invasive species.
• Understand the process of regenerating native forests.
• Making a contact with a group that works to rehabilitate the forest.

On Saturday the 29th, weather permitting, I will be taking an Uber to the meeting point and be part of a group of volunteers help area of the forest maintaining native planted species.

We will be working in the same area as last year, so can to check on the bush I planted last year to see how it is doing. There will be at least 1 other seat in the Uber if someone wishes to join me.

We will meet at the Pérola Da Portela Café near the Portela de Sintra train station.
- There is train leaving Lisbon Rossio station at 8:01 arriving at 8:38.
- There is a train leaving Oriente station at 8H08 arriving at Portela de Sintra at 8:52.

I will wait to get the Uber until those coming with me have made it to the Café. If you have a car you can drive directly to the Plantar Uma Arvore meeting point on their event page.

It is not allowed to smoke and to leave any trash during the hike!
