2018 recap: show and tell
Details
Dear JS lovers, let's get together before 2018 is over to hear what some of our community members have been busy with this year. If you have a little bit of JS wisdom to share, please ping us for the last timeslot.
18:30 - 19:00 - Check-in, say Hi
19:00 - 19:25 - "Observability in client apps" by António Novais from Talkdesk (https://www.talkdesk.com/):
In modern web applications, requirements of availability and performance are increasingly demanding, at the same time, the use of micro-services and SPAs make it increasingly difficult to understand the state of your applications. Traditional monitoring is no longer enough and developers need to improve their game to provide insights into how their application is behaving and how your customers are experiencing it and identify anomalies before your customers report them. For that, you need to observe your key business metrics and complement them with traditional monitoring to be able to quickly react to issues and debug them. This talk will explore some of these concepts and how you can observe your client applications.
19:25 - 19:40 - "A taste of static-site generation with gatsbyJS" by Mark Downey from The Bakery (https://thebakery.io/)
A quick overview of the JAM stack (Javascript/APIs/Markup) and an introduction to GatsbyJS, a static site generator for React based on my experience building an e-commerce website.
19:40 - 20:00 - Coffee break
20:00 - 20:30 - "Managing multi-package projects using Lerna" by Philip Nuzhnyy from The Bakery
Lerna has become a tool of choice for many open and closed source JS projects that include multiple packages. This talk will give you a taste for a monorepository setup based on my experience with a mid-size web application codebase.
See you guys and massive thanks to good folks at Talkdesk for the venue!
