The plot is deceptively simple, but Zweig makes the story compelling through his masterful ability to tap into the psychological torment of his characters. The story takes place in 1938 on a cruise from New York to Buenos Aires. It is discovered that on board is a world chess champion, who is challenged by a passenger to a game. But the challenger is no ordinary passenger either.

Chess Story by Stefan Zweig is available in all formats at public libraries and bookstores. (80 pp)
