What we’re about
Welcome to Lit & Laughs, a cozy book club celebrating Multicultural literature, connection, and community.
I moved to Portland a little while ago and found myself searching for a welcoming book club where people could gather to read Multicultural literature, hang out, and build new friendships. When I couldn't quite find one, I decided to create it myself!
Each month, we'll explore stories by Multicultural authors and voices from the diaspora. But this is more than just a book club. It’s a place where friendships grow, cultures are celebrated, and everyone feels seen.
So whether you’re new in town, feeling like a cultural "other," or just craving meaningful conversation, pull up a chair.
Let’s read. Let’s laugh. Let’s belong.
Welcome to the second gathering of Lit & Laughs: A Multicultural Book Club!
This month, we’re reading The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak. Some of you may already be familiar with her, from her TED Talk or other books.
As you read, feel free to jot down notes — or don't! — just whatever stands out to you. I'll also send out a list of discussion questions as we get closer to the date.
Please RSVP as soon as you're able, so that I'll have a better sense of how many people plan to join. Drinks and light snacks will be provided, and feel free to come with snacks / drinks if you’d like!
This should be a fun and meaningful opportunity to get back into reading and make new friends, some of whom may share cultural roots or experiences with you!
A few light expectations:
- Please read the book before we meet
- Be kind and respectful during discussion, but don't be afraid to disagree thoughtfully
Looking forward to meeting you all and discussing the book! ✨
