Stand By Me (Stephen King) Watch party/book discussion
Details
Let’s watch Stand by Me (1986) and talk about the Stephen King novella it’s based on, The Body (from Different Seasons).
We’ll dig into how the film adapts King’s story—what it keeps, what it changes, and how the tone shifts from page to screen. We can also talk about nostalgia, coming-of-age themes, and why this remains one of the most beloved King adaptations.
This will take place at my apartment in Logan Square on a 98” TV. Address will be shared with those who RSVP yes.
I’ll have some light snacks and drinks available. Feel free to bring something to share. If there’s enough interest, we can also coordinate a group pizza order (comment if you’re in).
Agenda:
- 5:00 pm – Arrive, hang out, and discuss The Body (book-focused conversation to start)
- 6:00 pm – start the movie (~1 hr 30 min)
- ~6:45 pm – Short break + initial reactions
- ~7:00 start the second half
- ~7:45 pm – Film ends; Group discussion comparing the film and novella
Leave whenever you’d like!
