Canaan Mountain Hike

Details

This will be a strenuous trek for experienced hikers. Our route will be about 11+ miles with 3100' elevation gain and will involve a bushwhack. There is an option to shorten by taking the Iron Trail back to the Beckely Furnace lot.

We'll meet at Beckley Furnace in East Caanan and shuttle to a tiny lot at the base of Canaan Mountain at 8:30. From there, we'll begin the hike with a very steep ascent straight up the mountain. We'll climb a couple of ladders and squeeze through some rocks before stopping at a lookout with expansive views to the north. Next, we'll make our way to Bradford Mountain (1950') and bushwhack to its grassy summit. We'll eventually connect to the red trail running along a ridgeline with magnificent rocks and ledges to our left and some endless views to our right. We'll finish steeply down to where we started.

Bring three liters of water, long pants, a windbreaker, and something to eat.
