Next random movie is Yearning, a Japanese film from 1964, at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

The famous Egyptian Theatre is now owned by Netflix for some reason, and if you have ever visited it before, it was remodeled, so be ready for that. But the American Cinematheque still screens movies there.

Parking in Hollywood is a thing. If you can I recommend taking the Metro B line to the Hollywood-Highland station and not worry about parking.

The movie starts at 7:00.

Here's a description and link for tickets:

Quiet passions erupt from within in Naruse’s late period masterpiece, a sumptuous melodrama of undulating and repressed feeling, set as the postwar dispersal of modernization stretches beyond Tokyo. Widow Reiko (Takamine) runs her in-law’s produce store, having rebuilt it herself in the 18 years since his passing, but faces a sudden outburst of new pressures: a push to remarry, fierce competition from a newly-minted supermarket and a love confession from her dead husband’s much younger brother Koji (Yuzo Kayama). Scripted by Takamine’s husband Zenzo Matsuyama, YEARNING finds devastating power in its tragic underpinnings as Takamine’s expressions—noted by even the faint glimmer of her eyes—convey multitudes—desire, melancholy and, as the film’s Japanese original title suggests, a swell of confusion in the wake of newfound longing.

Transparency. For this random movie, I updated the script to include an optional max year filter. For this selection, I used a max year of 1969.

I did this because movies form 1990 onward outnumber older films by about 5:1 in the Revival Hub listings. I wanted a mix of older films ("classic") and newer ones so I added a filter to limit the selection to films before a certain year. I'll only do that sometimes, and will always disclose what max year I used.
