A Riverside Historical Walk: London Bridge to the Isle of Effra

Details

Step into the story of London’s south bank on a gentle 4-mile-ish stroll from London Bridge Station to the Isle of Effra. We’ll be following the Thames Path as it winds past medieval ruins, Victorian warehouses, wartime relics, and cultural landmarks—all while tracing the city’s transformation from Roman outpost to global metropolis.

Explore with us, the haunting remains of Edward III’s riverside manor, the gritty legacy of Jacob’s Island, and the industrial echoes of the capital’s past, whilst, hopefully, staying out of ‘the clink’. Marvel at HMS Belfast’s wartime might, Shakespeare’s Globe reborn, and the modern art powerhouse of the Tate Modern. The journey ends at the Isle of Effra, a stunning new riverside destination named after one of London’s lost rivers—now a symbol of environmental renewal.

So, whether you're card-carrying history buff, a curious local, or a visitor seeking London’s untold stories, this tour offers a rich tapestry of heritage, resilience, and reinvention.

... and who knows, perhaps, a cooling draught and/or a nibble, at one of wonderfully charming historic pubs, with which the South Bank is so amply served, if you so choose.

N.B. as ever, numbers will be strictly limited to allow everyone the opportunity to chat, make friends and ask questions.

London Bridge is easily accessible on the Tube, Southeastern Trains, Thameslink and numerous bus routes.
