Urban Jungle Meets Ancient Echoes: The Barbican Conservatory and Beyond

Details
The Barbican Conservatory and Beyond
Here’s a special ‘event’ rather than a ‘standard issue walk’, although, a certain amount of the latter will, inevitably, by involved!
The Barbican Conservatory is having one of its, relatively infrequent, opportunities to visit the wonderful Barbican Conservatory, so I’m combining a visit here with an exploration of some fascinating historical sites which abound in the vicinity.
The Barbican Conservatory, (see pics above), nestles within the Brutalist architecture of the Barbican Centre, and is a lush, little known haven boasting over 2,000 species of tropical and arid plants, cascading greenery, and tranquil koi ponds.
We’ll also be taking a look around St Giles-without-Cripplegate – A medieval survivor of fire and war, a church which has witnessed centuries of London’s evolution, and amongst other things, is the final resting place of heretic poet and the original free speech advocate John Milton. We also have some Roman remains to explore, and who perhaps a quick glance at, what I regard as, the most quintessentially British of all monuments!
… and who knows, perhaps we could round things off with a cooling draught and a nibble at one of the wonderfully atmospheric pubs, with which the area is so amply served?
Please note: the attendee limit for this event is 10, as a result of ticketing restrictions.
