Hewlett Gulch - Dog 🐕 Lovers Trail - Poudre Canyon

Details

This is a new hike for me! This is said to be a great trail for dog lovers as you can let your dog off leash to romp alongside you while you hike. There are many water crossings to cool you and your buddy down on a warm day. But per the rules, your dog must be under voice control. See further dog details below.

Hikes are always subject to date/time change or cancellation due to weather, trail conditions or closures, or other unforeseen circumstances. We hike as a group and hike at an average moving pace of about 2.5mph (slower up
faster down). Everyone is expected to wait at all intersections & periodically otherwise so that no one is left behind or hiking on their own for safety purposes. We will stop as needed along the way for water, snacks, pictures, etc.

Difficulty: about 8 miles with about 1,150 to 1,200 feet elevation gain.

HIKE DESCRIPTION: The Hewlett Gulch trail (#954) is located about 25 minutes outside Fort Collins, and takes hikers along Gordon Creek. Hikers are taken through some gorgeous scenery with mountains on either side, unique rock formations, and nearby bighorn sheep and deer populations may be sighted
the trail is uniquely beautiful all the way through. There are said to be some extremely cool rock formations located 2-3 miles into the hike. See the following hike in AllTrails: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/hewlett-gulch

DOGS ALLOWED IF FOLLOW PARK RULES: Dogs can be off leash but must be under voice control at all times. Please be sure your dog is well behaved and can handle the length of the walk. Dog owners must clean up pet excrement. Also note that I’ve read there are no creek crossings between mile 2 and 5 for your dog.
