Lost Lake & Mining Site above Lake

Details

Let’s do the Lost Lake hike, but on this hike we will continue up above the lake to the old mine site. The views above the lake are very nice! And let’s hope we hit some fall colors.

Hikes that are scheduled weeks in advance are always subject to date/time change or cancellation due to weather, trail conditions or closures, or other unforeseen circumstances.

Difficulty: Moderate - about 6.5 miles with about 1200 feet elevation gain.

HIKE DESCRIPTION: This is a hike near Nederland to a beautiful alpine lake surrounded by the mountains of Indian Peaks. The trail up to Lost Lake takes you along the course of Middle Boulder creek, a slide waterfall, a set of tumbling cascades, and in the summer, a variety of wildflowers that decorate the borders of the trail, the creeksides, and the small meadows that open up along the trail. We will hike both above the lake to the old mining site and also around the entire lake. See the following hike in Alltrails: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/lost-lake-via-hessie-trail
Except we will have additional mileage and elevation gain up to the old mine site.

DOGS ALLOWED IF FOLLOW RULES: All dogs must be on leash. Please be sure your dog is well behaved and can handle the length of the walk. Dog owners must clean up pet excrement.

ADDRESS/DIRECTIONS: We will meet at the Hessie trailhead. To get there, you can either click on the alltrails link above and click directions. Or if you use google maps, you can type in “Hessie Trailhead” and that should take you to the trailhead, which is west of Nederland.

We wait 5 minutes for late arrivals…but no longer as that is inconsiderate to those arriving timely. So please allow extra time to get to the trailhead.

IMPORTANT: This is a participate at your own risk event! Life is risky. I am not a professional guide and am simply hosting this event. By signing up for this hike you acknowledge that you are capable of performing this hike and that you are solely responsible for your own safety.
