Since the weather is still really nice for this time of year, let’s hike to Heart Lake. Recent alltrails review and photos show snow/ice, so please bring microspikes/traction.

Difficulty: about 11 miles with 2100+ feet elevation gain. Highest elevation is about 11,400 feet.

We hike as a group and hike at an average moving pace of about 2.5mph. Although the group may split up due to different hiking paces, everyone is expected to wait at all intersections & periodically otherwise so that we can regroup and so no one is left behind or hiking on their own for safety purposes. We will plan to take a break at the lake or elsewhere depending on weather & we will stop as needed along the way for water, snacks, pictures, etc.

HIKE DESCRIPTION: Let’s hike to Heart Lake…a beautiful emerald lake that sits just below the Continental Divide. We will pass Rogers Pass Lake and some other lakes which I think are just as beautiful or more beautiful than Heart Lake. We will take a break at Heart Lake if weather is good. Otherwise we will head back and take a break elsewhere. See the following hike in Alltrails: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/heart-lake-via-south-boulder-creek-trail

ADDRESS/DIRECTIONS: We will meet at the Moffat Tunnel parking area near Rollinsville. To get there, you can either click on the alltrails link above and click directions. Or if you use google maps, you can type in “Moffat Tunnel East Portal TH Parking Lot” for directions If you use Apple Maps, you can type in “Moffat Tunnel” for directions.

We wait 5 minutes for late arrivals…but no longer as that is inconsiderate to those arriving timely. So please allow extra time to get to the trailhead.

DOGS ALLOWED IF FOLLOW PARK RULES: Allowed on a leash. Please be sure your dog is well behaved and can handle the length of the hike. Dog owners must clean up pet excrement.
