Presidents Day Hike: To Mt Falcon Presidents Summer White House Site

NOTE WE ARE STARTING AT THE EAST TRAILHEAD.

Difficulty: about 7 miles with about 1,700-1,800 feet elevation gain. This is a self-made trail so mileage and elevation gain are estimated.

HIKE DESCRIPTION: On Presidents Day, it seems appropriate to visit the site once proposed as the summer grounds for a second presidential White House. We will start out at the Mount Falcon East trailhead. From there, we will take the Turkey Trot trail up to the proposed White House site. Then we’ll hike the short Two Dog Trail to an overlook. Then head back down to the trailhead via the Castle Trail. DOGS ALLOWED IF FOLLOW PARK RULES: Allowed on a leash. Please be sure your dog is well behaved and can handle the length of the walk. Dog owners must clean up pet excrement per Jefferson County Open Space Regulations (https://www.jeffco.us/DocumentCenter/View/8982).

ADDRESS/DIRECTIONS: We will meet at the Mount Falcon EAST Trailhead in Morrison. The address is 3852 Vine Street, Morrison CO 80465. If you use Google maps, you can type in “Morrison Trailhead” for directions. If you use Apple Maps, you can type in “Mount Falcon Morrison Trailhead” for directions.

NO SHOWS: If you are a no-show to 2 hikes, you will be booted from this meetup group. So please change your RSVP to “not going” if you are unable to make it.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING: Water, snacks, layers of clothing, good hiking shoes/boots, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, gloves, hiking poles (if you find them helpful), and anything else you deem essential. PLEASE ALSO BRING MICROSPIKES IN CASE WE NEED THEM!
