• 50ml of water (in a separate glass)
• A pot of boiling water with coarse salt
• 1 bottle of Italian tomato passata
• Olive oil
• 1 shallot or small onion
• Fresh basil leaves
• Half a glass of fresh water
• Grated cheese (like Parmigiano Reggiano), optional
• A marble surface or wooden board for shaping
• A rounded-tip knife
