What we’re about
A group for people who enjoy live music in Oxford, be it Open Mic nights, folk, rock, classical, world, jazz, or anything else.
Meet up, have a drink, go to the gig, and enjoy.
If you enjoy live music and would like to meet others who do too, then this group is for you.
This group will not charge you to join or attend events, but of course, some gigs are ticketed in order to pay the musicians! In this case, none of the ticket money goes to MeetUp or the organiser of this group.
This group is independent and is not affiliated with any business or organisation.
Upcoming events (1)
See all- Newen Afrobeat // 11 piece // Uptempo Funk African Highlife // £18.70Cowley Workers Social Club, Oxford
This will be a big one - an 11 piece band! They are an experienced collective from Chile who know how to deliver. Their main flavour is Afrobeat but they manage to cross boundaries into elements of funk, highlife, and jazz (with brass solos, and funky keyboard + guitar). The multiple vocalists also bring a different dynamic. The videos show up-tempo tracks, which is good.
Read more here, on the main Bossaphonik website (Bossaphonik is the name of the night/the organisers). https://bossaphonik.com/
Expect it to be busy - probably sold out - so get your tickets early. I will be hot since it is summer.

You can buy on the door but will cost more.
Following the live music will be DJs.ARRIVING
The band normally begin playing at 9:30pm, but I like to get their early to meet and chat with people. I recommend you do the same! It gets pretty busy, and you might have to queue if you are late. In the event that you already have a ticket and there is a queue, you can normally push to the front and get in - arrive before 8:45pm to be safe, though, and then ease in to it.COMMUNICATING VIA MEET UP SITE/APP
Ensure you have the Meet Up app on your phone with notifications turned on. The chat feature has disappeared but you can post questions and info to the event page - or send me a message via the Meet Up site.WHERE TO MEET
At the venue, on the table next to the entrance (to the right of the doors as you walk in). I'll be there from about 8:40pm. I will send a chat message on this event saying what I am wearing. Probably a blue T-Shirt.ABOUT THE NIGHT
The place to be if you like upbeat danceable world music.
Bossaphonik is a live music dance night that presents music from around the globe, fused together to make an uplifting joyful evening of live music and good vibes. Whether it's latino, afro-beat, funk, middle-eastern (and often it can be a blend of all these influences cleverly fused together), the music is often upbeat and danceable.PARKING
Limited parking available, but there is the open car park down Between Towns Road, by Sainsbury's.You may want to bring ear protection if you have tinnitus like I do, but most people don't wear them at the nights.
DONATIONS FOR THIS MEET UP GROUP:
Over the last 12 months, I have organised 25 events and paid Meet Up £212. I have not passed this £212 cost on to members, but ask that you donate £5 - £15 to help me cover this Meet Up charge so that I can continue to run this group without being out of pocket.
If you would like to transfer something, however small, let me know and I will give you details. Thank you.See you there!
Ed.
