It was March 2022 when we were thrilled with this high-profile jazz trio at the historic St. Hillary (former church) in Tiburon. This November Manring-Kassin-Burr will be performing again in the intimate wood-lined interior, acoustically friendly building with fine Bay views. The Liv Jazz members again will meet in downtown Tiburon where volunteer shuttles take us to the venue and back, then a short walk to our usual restaurant for dinner.

Press release: "As individual players bassist Michael Manring, flutist Larry Kassin and pianist John R Burr have all carved out extensive, multi-faceted careers, exploring a vast array of musical styles and garnering their share of gold records and Grammy nominations. Together they create intriguingly uncategorizable, original, improvised music that blithely ignores stylistic divisions hemming in jazz, rock, folk, avant-garde and world music.
"Every instrument has its technical innovators, and it's pioneers who explore the emotional and expressive potential. Rarely are the two combined in the same person - John Coltrane did it for the tenor sax, Keith Jarrett for the piano and Michael Manring for the bass guitar." -Bass Guitar Magazine. Michael was recently nominated as "Greatest Bassist of all Time" -21st Century category by Bass Player Magazine.
"John R. Burr is that rare pianist who combines jazz technique with a genuine love for folk music. “Pianist extraordinaire John R. Burr has the most sparkling style since former Allman Brother-turned-Rolling Stone hired hand Chuck Leavell.” -Philadelphia Weekly.
"Larry Kassin exhibits an awareness of tonal possibilities in the tradition of Roland Kirk, an authoritativeness that sometimes recalls Hubert Laws and the freedom of expression of Paul Horn." -Chicago Reader
"Ray Manzarek and Michael McClure are brilliantly abetted by Larry Kassin on flute throughout the album." (Ray Manzarek & Michael McClure-Piano Poems) -Beat Scene.
