George Brooks: Indo-jazz fusion

To celebrate his 70th birthday, saxophonist and composer George Brooks is reuniting his fusion band Summit, whose ground-breaking eponymous CD was recorded 25 years ago. The reunion features the original band members (with the exception of legendary percussionist Zakir Hussain, who passed away in 2024). The band for this concert consists of:
- George Brooks – saxophone
- Steve Smith – drums
- Fareed Haque – guitar
- Kai Eckhardt – bass
- Special guest:
- Selvaganesh Vinayakram – Grammy-winning percussionist
SHOW COST: $ 39 (including Freight fees) when buying tickets before the date of the show. (Ticket prices go up by $5 on the day of the show.)

WHEN/WHERE TO MEET: Unless joining me for dinner beforehand, meet no later than 7:30 p.m., in the Freight's lobby, so we can aim to get some decent seats together. (The doors open at 7:00 p.m., and the show starts at 8:00 p.m.) Note that this show is on a Friday night.

TRANSIT/PARKING: Conveniently located less than a block from the downtown Berkeley BART station and from multiple AC Transit bus lines serving Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco. There's a paid parking garage next door to the Freight, and some free street parking available in the neighborhood (more so away from Shattuck or north of University).
OPTIONAL PRE-SHOW DINNER at 6:00 p.m. at Taste of the Himalayas in north-central Berkeley, about one-half mile from The Freight. (Dinner limited to six people, preferably Meetup members who haven't racked up no-shows or late cancellations. I'll gladly accommodate additional people for the concert itself.)
ADDITIONAL FOOD AND DRINK OPTIONS: Concertgoers may purchase snacks at the Freight's lobby concession stand to enjoy before or during the show.
