Hi All,

Welcome to our first nature photography meetup. My apologies for the delay in getting this meetup off the ground. I'm excited to be planning our first event and to meet everyone. We’ll be gathering at the Don Edwards Wildlife Preserve in Fremont for some golden light landscapes, and bird photography. I recently visited this vast preserve with interesting landscape features and a variety of cool fauna.

We'll catch the golden hour and stay past sunset for some interesting south facing views of the salt ponds and Dumbarton bridge in the distance.

Recommended Gear:

  1. Wide lens
  2. 300-500mm for some wildlife action
  3. Tripod and ND filters optional. (I love experimenting with ND filters when shooting water bodies or dramatic skies if we get lucky.)

Plan:

  • After entering Marshland road, skip the 1st parking lot on your right, and pull into the large lot on your left down the road.
  • We'll start with greetings and quick intros before heading over to the trail.
  • The gate on Marshland road closes at 7 PM, and we need to be out of the preserve by 7.
  • Shoulder parking is allowed outside the gate after 7 PM for those interested in sunset shots.

Note:

  • Don Edwards gets chilly evening winds, definitely pack a layer.
  • Wear comfortable shoes with grip, we'll be on the lower Tidelands trail overlooking the salt ponds. Gentle climb of 50-75 ft.
  • There are restrooms near the Visitor Center, but they may be closed by the time we arrive—so please plan ahead.

See you all soon, I may make updates to the event as we get closer.

Cheers !
