Please join us on Sunday August 10 at 2:30 pm, as we host poets Joan Barasovska and Joey Lew. Each poet will read for about 20 minutes, followed by a short break to sign books, and then an Open Mic. (Please limit your reading to one poem, one page.)

Joan Barasovska lives in Chapel Hill, NC. She is an officer of the North Carolina Poetry Society and hosts a monthly poetry series at McIntyre’s Books. Joan has been nominated for Best of the Net and four times for a Pushcart Prize. Her books have been reviewed in Pedestal Magazine, Big City Lit, North Carolina Literary Review, and The Main Street Rag. She is the author of Birthing Age, Carrying Clare, and Orange Tulips. Her latest collection is Unblessed, Unsung, published by Main Street Rag in 2025.

Joey Lew holds an MFA in poetry from UNCG and an MD from UCSF and is currently a surgical resident at Duke. She placed first in the 2020 William Carlos Williams National Poetry Competition and the 2022 Lough Mask Poetry Competition, was shortlisted at the 2023 Wolverhampton Literary Festival Poetry Competition and was nominated for a 2024 Pushcart Prize. Her work can be seen in literary magazines including most recently The MacGuffin and The San Antonio Review. Come early to socialize and sign up for the Open Mic. Hope to see you there!
