Walktober continues this fall, bringing together community, nature, and the joy of walking. Each week in October, we host guided walks across Metro Vancouver that highlight unique stories, landscapes, and the importance of sustainable mobility. These walks are open to everyone and are a great way to connect with others while exploring the outdoors and new neighbourhoods

Stroll through fall and recognize your steps as your voice with our 3rd Walktober walk, Steps as Advocacy: City Hall to the Art Gallery. Throughout history, walking has played a central role in grassroots movements from student walkouts to labour strikes, marches, and protests. Vancouver is no stranger to this tradition with a long history of movement-based advocacy, with public infrastructure playing a critical role in that expression. The act of walking in a public space transforms plazas and streets into platforms for the public to have their voices heard.

The walk will begin at one of these spaces, Vancouver City Hall, a common location for public gatherings, loop around part of the scenic False Creek Seawall and end at the Vancouver Art Gallery in bustling Downtown, which has become one of the most popular gathering public spaces for major protests and advocacy events in the city. At rest, public spaces afford us the opportunity to socialize, play, unwind, and connect with community. But when politically activated, those same streets and sidewalks become engines of protest, tools of advocacy, and platforms for change.

Join us Oct 18 at 12 PM for the 4.5 KM journey (approx. 65 minutes) and experience the hustle and bustle of downtown while learning how the act of walking and public infrastructure can shape how our voices are heard. This walk is NOT a loop.
