Gregorjevo: Paper Boats & Bird Weddings: Slovenian Ancient Valentine's Day and Celebration of Spring

In Slovenia, we don't wait for the calendar to tell us it's Spring. We listen to the birds. Gregorjevo (March 12th) is the ancient Slovenian Valentine’s Day—the day when the birds wed and the light returns to the world.
Because the best celebrations deserve a Friday night, Ljubljana International is hosting a special "Gregorjevo Eve" on Friday, March 13th.
For centuries people have celebrated Gregorjevo by sending small boats with wishes down the river, symbolizing letting go of winter and welcoming the light and new beginnings.
This year, Ljubljana International invites you to experience this tradition together with our international community.
🚢 Here's what we're doing:
We start the evening at Pub LOO-BLAH-NAH at 8PM — drinks, good company, and making our paper boats together.
Take a piece of paper. Fold it into a boat. Write a wish on it — a hope, a dream, something you want to let go of, or something you want to call in.
Instructions on how to make the boat will be provided.
Then at 9:15PM we walk together to the Ljubljanica River and set them free.
One city. One river. A hundred wishes floating into spring.

20:30 — Making origami wish boats
21:15 — Walk to the Ljubljanica river
21:30 — Floating the boats & spring wishes
Afterwards we can return to the bar and continue the evening together.
