Black Walnut and Powder Canyon Motorway Loop

Details
Hiking is an excellent way to:
-help lose weight
-stay healthy and in shape
-meet people in a low-pressure atmosphere
-maintain better mental health by connection with the outdoors and people
SATURDAY, JUNE 14TH
THIS LOCATION HAS LIMITED PARKING. THEREFORE, PLEASE MEET AT THE PATHFINDER COMMUNITY REGIONAL PARK PARKING LOT. It’s across the street on Pathfinder Rd, and about a 10 minutes-walk away from the trail start.
You are welcome to park on FULLERTON RD, where most people park, but it gets crowded there fast, so no guarantees you’ll find a spot. Also, IF YOU PARK THERE YOU’LL HAVE TO WAIT 10-20 MINUTES AFTER 8 FOR THE REST OF US TO WALK UP TO THE TRAIL START. PLEASE BEAR THIS IN MIND.
There is also a Powder Canyon Trail Parking Lot nearby (you can find on the All Trails App), but the same can be said - it’s usually crowded and you’ll have to walk down to the starting point of the Black Walnut Trail and wait for us. If you’re okay with that, I’m okay with that.
MEET BETWEEN 8 AM AND 8:10 AM. We will start walking at 8:10 AM.
PUNCTUALITY POLICY
I recommend coming a few minutes early for time to park and find us. I’ve set it up as a window of time so there’s no confusion about when we’ll start walking. Please aim to arrive at 8 AM or earlier. If you’re running late, I am willing to wait a hot minute before we head out (so long as we know you’re coming) - but we cannot wait past the 8:10 start time. We may start walking earlier if everyone is present (that I know of).
PLEASE MESSAGE ME AT MY PHONE NUMBER IF YOU ARE RUNNING LATE AT LEAST FIVE MINUTES BEFORE 8.
Otherwise, I will assume you’re not coming. Unfortunately, I cannot leave my phone number on this platform, but will provide it privately once your RSVP is confirmed.
HOW LONG IS THE HIKE? About 1 hr 20 minutes (1 hr on the trail itself, 10 minutes up and 10 minutes back to parking).
HOW MANY MILES? 2.1 miles
WHAT’S THE ELEVATION? 383 feet
WHAT’S THE DIFFICULTY LEVEL? Moderate
The first half of it is walking up-hill (which can be a lot for some ppl), but we can take a break or two. The last half is much smoother and more aesthetic.
(ALL of the hikes in this group are Moderate-level).
Enjoy this 2.1-mile loop trail near La Habra, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 hr to complete. This is a very popular trail for birding, hiking, and horse-back riding, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round, and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.
WHAT TO BRING AND NOT TO BRING:
-1-2 water bottles
-comfortable clothes (I recommend fitness-wear or sweats with sneakers)
-a sweater or jacket
-Please DO NOT bring any heavy purses. If you must bring something to hold extra items, I would recommend either a light-weight backpack, a fanny-pack, or a long-strap-light-weight bag.
-Mini trash bags (if bringing a dog) for poop pick-up.
RSVP POLICY
For ease of management, I had to limit the number of total attendees to a maximum of 15. Therefore, with limited space, I ask everyone to be courteous to their meetup-group neighbors by adjusting your RSVP in a timely manner as soon as you know your plans have changed.
IF YOUR PLANS CHANGE, PLEASE GIVE US THE COURTESY TO ADJUST YOUR RSVP AT LEAST 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE TO GIVE OTHERS THE CHANCE TO JOIN.
IS THERE A FEE? No
I recommend getting an app called All Trails, which is free to use. It gives you a full navigational layout of the trail with pictures. It has this trail and many others we will be using in the future.
