Great, I loved the trailblazing. I am glad that Dean knew where we were going and that we did not need to call a BIG cab.

Opps, wrong hike in Chatsworth that same day. Sun exposure.
Topanga to Devonshire Right going East until Canoga then left going North to meeting spot under the 118 freeway to find Dean & Deerlake.

Topanga to Lassen Left going West until it deadends into the cemetary. Pun intended. That cross street is Valley Circle.

Great hike, perfect weather. I am sure Rocky Peak was good as well.

I'm a native (Los Angeles) Californian, yet, some of these hike locations blow me away because I never knew they existed and are so beautiful.

  • Shaila

I could not find the location, I took topanga canyon blvd exit , went north. Its almost dead end, did not see any known faces. I must have missed something here. Ended up going to rovky peak by myself.

Great hike, friendly people, dean is wonderful. However, the altitude climb was way more than the 800 feet it was claimed to be.

Fun adventure, Dean. Nice group and good conversation. FYI - stats according to MapMyFitness were 8.23 miles, 837 ft elevation gain w/ 2 miles at Cat 4 and 0.83 miles at Cat 5. I know I'll be sore tomorrow!

Hey Dean- since you say "easy pace", would you consider this a begginer/beginner-intermediate hike?? I'd like to take my mother but would like to be sure she can hang =)

    March 15, 2013

    • Dean

Moderate due to distance and elevation gain. This is definitely not a beginner hike.

      March 15, 2013

    Can't make this one.

Not sure, but I may end up in Jtree shooting the comet this weekend..I'll pull my spot soon as i know for sure. Was up there today, fun area for sure lots of options. The smaller lower trails are full of stinging nettle..deep ravine areas..with poison oak..just a little heads up!! cheers Darrin

Dean, do you have a route map that you can post. I've not been in the Deer Lake area before.

    February 19, 2013

    • Dean

I am going to improvise -- there are lots of interconnecting trails, ranch roads, etc. Check out google satellite veiw, you can see some of the trails. Here are some pics: http://www.meetup.com.... I'll try to look for tracks from a previous hike

      February 19, 2013

    • Dean

Here are some tracks from 3 years ago (When we were The Weekday Hikers). Start is from end of Topanga instead of end of Canoga but we'll overlap this - http://www.meetup.com...]
