Its been over 2 years since we did this hike. At that time it was an impromptu extension of a different plan. See https://www.meetup.com... (https://www.meetup.com/localhikers/photos/263434/) for pictures. Note hike took place shortly after Corral Canyon fire.

This 14.5 mile hike begins at the Backbone Trailhead on Malibu Canyon and proceeds up Mesa Peak Motorway. After about about 6 miles of uphill trekking we reach Corral Canyon where we can do some optional rock climbing, take a break, snack, etc. Then we leave the Backbone Trail toward Castro Crest and Bulldog Motorway where we begin our descent into Malibu Creek State Park. We'll traverse MCSP, climb some more hills and enter Tapia Park and return to our vehicle

Total ascent is about 2800 feet. Highlights include ocean and valley views, spectacular sandstone formations, Mesa Peak, ground zero for the last Malibu fire, unidentified ruins, MASH site, Century Lake.

Bring food, water, camera.

There is free parking on the southeast corner of Malibu Canyon and Piuma Rd. There is fee parking ($5 or $8?) on Malibu Canyon a few yards south of Piuma Rd.
