12 miles and 1500' elevation gain.
Starts at approx 17345 Verde De La Montura, Los Angeels, CA 90272 (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=17345+Verde+De+La+Montura+90272). Make sure to park in the unlimited zones.
The hike starts at the Santa Ynez Canyon trail head in Palisades Highlands travels up through the Santa Ynez Canyon [without going to the waterfall], onto Eagle Springs Fire Road to Eagle Rock then to Hub Junction & Temescal Peak and down Temescal Ridge to the small lot at 16701 Vía La Costa then back to the car though the neighborhood.
It's high season for ticks, snakes and poison oak and Santa Ynez canyon has all of these in spades. Pants, boots and maybe even long shirt are highly suggested. This is expected to be 1500' elevation gain [with stairs...] and about 12 miles. This is not a beginner hike. No dogs are allowed as we will be traveling though Topenga State Park.
The goal is to catch the sunset [supposedly at 7.46p on Monday] as descending down Temescal Ridge Trail - a truly awesome experience. But just in case we end up late [and hiking in the dark], it is suggested you bring a headlamp [or other light].
Bring something to snack on, plenty of water, sunscreen, lots of oxygen for the summit attempt of Temscal Peak, a pen to sign the log book and a camera to capture the 360 views to the valley and LA proper. :-) See you there!
Time changed to 2.30p.
