Lollapalooza II: Get Some Backbone - Dead Horse to Piuma

We are combining two great hikes into one. This will be a 12 mile shuttle hike with 2,500' gain along a shady and rocky section of the Backbone Trail. We'll meet at the Malibu Canyon trailhead, shuttle to the Dead Horse trailhead and start the hike there.

The first half of the hike, and where most of the elevation gain will be had, is along shady Hondo Canyon to Fossil Ridge. Normally this would be about a 9 mile out and back hike. From Fossil Ridge we'll continue our climb along the backbone trail to Saddle Peak. We'll take our snack/lunch break here on the Saddle Peak Slab.

From there the original shuttle drivers will be taken back to the cars at Malibu Canyon

Malibu Canyon Trailhead is on the west side of street 4.4 miles north of PCH, 5 miles south of 101
Park free at Lot 1 if you can. Parking is $10.00 at Lot 2 -- exact change. $7.00 at Dead Horse. Bring 5's and 1's with you -- and a pen
