The last time we explored this area was in March 2011. A lot has changed since then, including the formalization of some trails and the Springs Fire.

Our hike will explore the western end of the land overseen by the Conejo Open Space Foundation. We'll start out following the Potrero Ridge Trail as it ascends a series of switchbacks, heading briefly south and arriving at a bench where we can enjoy a nice view of the Satwiwa/Point Mugu area.

As we head downhill with wonderful views of Boney Mountain, we'll join up with the neighborhood trails in the Dos Vientos area. They provide a great overview of the nearby Dos Vientos residential area, as well as distant vistas including Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, surrounding mountains and open space, a secluded pond, the Pacific coast, and two of the Channel Islands.

Here are more pictures from our 2009 and 2011 hikes:

Hike will be about 11 miles with 1500 feet total ascent. There will be two breaks along the way, one at Dos Vientos Community Park

From L.A., take Highway 101 to the Borchard Road exit. Turn right and go 1.8 miles to Reino Road. Turn left and go 0.9 miles, looking for a parking area on the right (between Dunaway Drive and Paseo de Leon; if you hit Lynn Road, you’re about 0.2 miles too far.)

From Ventura, take Highway 101 to the Wendy Drive exit. Turn left on Wendy and go 0.8 miles to Borchard. Turn right and go 0.5 miles to South Reino. Turn left and go about a mile to the parking area.
