We'll be joining the Valencia Hiking Crew in the dedication of the new Keyhole 7 Memorial Bench at Eagle Rock. On Sunday, April 10, park service employees will be installing the bench starting at 10:00am. We have been invited to be in attendance during the installation, and following there will be a brief dedication ceremony.

VHC has scheduled two other hikes/trailheads: the top of Reseda and Trippet Ranch. With some cross-posting attendance is very high at both places and so I am offering a "third way." This hike is about 9 miles with 1500 ft total ascent, and plenty of free parking.

Our hike will begin in the northwestern corner of Topanga State Park on the Viewridge Trail in Santa Maria Canyon. Highlights during this trek through a wooded canyon include ocean views. A sturdy bridge will take us across Santa Maria Canyon. We'll continue south along a trail on Cheney Ridge which will take us to The Bench. Along they way we'll be touring some of the residential streets of Topanga, including the historical Sylvia Park neighborhood

Upon leaving Cheney Ridge Eagle Rock will come into view. The most impressive landmark in all of Topanga State Park, overlooking the upper watershed of Santa Ynez Canyon and the ocean beyond.

Note: Family members of the Keyhole 7 that are attending get first use of the bench. Please do not use the bench until after that

Many of you know by now the tragic events of September 14th, 2015 where we lost our fellow hikers at Zion National Park's Keyhole Canyon.

Remembering Don Teichner, Mark Mackenzie, Steve and Linda Arthur, Muku Reynolds, Robin Brum and Gary Favela.

Special kudos goes to the VHC members that helped make the bench a reality:
