The plan is to catch the 8:00 boat from Ventura to Santa Cruz island. You will need to purchase the ticket from Island Packers. I have my reservation posted as a picture so you can get the boat info.
The pier is no longer there so we will be ferried to the beach in small boats. Plan on bringing an extra pair of shoes to get off the boat in case you get wet.
After grouping up we will take a 4 to 5 hour hike. The planned route is shown in one of the attached pictures. It is in red on the topographic map.
The choice of hike may change depending on the weather on the day as well as the makeup of the group. Only experienced hikers should come as the hike will be in the 10 to 12 mile range with 2,000 feet of climbing. Additionally there will only be 6 hours to hike and still catch the boat home.
After the hike we will catch the 5:00 PM boat home which gets back to the Ventura harbor around 6:00.
Please read all the information on the Island Packers website so you can plan accordingly. The weather is quite variable so clothing options are a must.
I pre-hiked part of the route today. It was overcast so I turned back rather then risk getting lost. I posted a couple of pictures if you want to take a look. It looks like it will be about 10 miles with 2,000 feet of climbing as I thought.
There are some specific things such as disposable grocery bags, wood, plants etc. that may not be taken on the island. You can read about these on line.
I am not a professional guide and as such you are responsible for your own safety while on this trip. In this case particularly relating to missing the return boat. You are solely responsible to get back in time.
