Satwiwa - Upper Sycamore Canyon - Old Boney - Fossil Trail Loop

Details
This site was home to the Chumash, Spanish Rancho El Conejo, and modern ranching and farming operations. For many years, the Santa Monica Mountains sustained the Chumash and Tongva/Gabrielino cultures. Sycamore Canyon, which cuts through Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa and Point Mugu State Park, was part of a Chumash trade route. Satwiwa, which means "the bluffs," was the name of a nearby Chumash village.

We'll hike through serene hills, with views of Boney Mountain. Along the way there is a seasonal water fall and some hand-sized fossils. We'll take a snack break at the Danielson Monument.
The hike is about 8.5 miles with 2,000 feet total ascent and is rated DIFFICULT due to terrain. See my hike rating guide: https://www.meetuphikes.com/hike-rating-guide/
Directions to Trailhead
Park on Potrero Rd. at the end of Wendy Dr. in Newbury Park
