Pt. Dume!... Chicago style!

This is all Kevin's idea!

Avoiding gunfire, snipers, tommy guns, 1918 Ford's and flying deep dish pizza's, we climb! All day! Chicago style! If you have a zuit suit, bring it! j/k. But the theme for this climb is Chicago!!! Mafia, gangsta, flapper, speakeasy, roaring 20's. Dress to impress! Fedora hats, if you have those t-shirts that look like suits, even better! Code words, and talking into your hands with toothpicks encouraged.

Fun things to look forward to:

a beautiful 10 hour day at the beach "swim with the fishes" try on a pair of "cement shoes" "go for a little ride"... to the market to get us more ice! dork! you might be given a mafia name like "mumbles" or "Tony 2 times" or "Joey Knuckles"

Also, can not stress this enough... bring snacks, WATER, umbrella's, protection from the sun, swim suits, etc. Potluck too! Come when you want, leave when you want. About 6pm or so we'll pull everything and head out for an early evening dinner somewhere.

The basics: THIS event will go from 8:00am to 6:00pm officially. Point Dume is one of the best crags of all time for moderate and beginning climbers. The main face has five routes from 5.6 to 5.9. The ocean side has three routes from 5.10b to 5.10d. We'll get what we can.

Shoes can be rented at Sports Chalet ($8), Adventure 16 ($12), and at some REI stores. I suggest looking on Ebay for climbing shoes too... some are as low as $25-50 for the Evolv series. ο»ΏHarnesses are inexpensive on ebay... some as low as $35-50 Bring a belay device if you have one... Gri Gri or Cinch preferred, ATC and ATS if that's all you have Bring a dynamic 10.2-11.6mm rope if you have one. 60-70 meters please! It's cold in the morning, warm in the afternoon, with a good chance of being overcast. Dress in layers. Bring snacks, water, chair/blanket, cooler with ice, protection from the elements (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, umbrella, shade canopy, etc.)

LIABILITY: Rock Climbing in an inherently dangerous sport/activity. You, and no one else, are 100% responsible for your safety at all times. CLIMB AT YOUR OWN RISK!

ADDRESS for your GPS: make sure you turn onto Westward Beach road, follow it around to the left, and go PAST the parked cars ALL the way into the back and furthest most parking area.

7200 Westward Beach Rd

Malibu, CA 90265

PARKING: There is a Free Parking Area (confirmed on 7/26/11, there is room for over 2 dozen cars if you get there early enough) READ THE SIGNS CAREFULLY!!! Located here http://bit.ly/ptdume_free_parking Take Birdview, to Cliffview to Grasswood. Drive up Grasswood about 100 feet where there aren't any "tow away" signs. Then you'll have to walk back down the little trails to get to the rock face.

$3 Parking Lot at the end of Westward Beach Road before 9am (get there early, pay at the pay station and put the receipt inside your car on the dashboard with the important info facing out so the ranger won't give you a ticket. $8 after 9am! If you get there after 9am, you'll pay $8 at the kiosk.
Top Rope Rigging: Anchors are worthless without the ropes to climb on. HUGE thanks to those last time who brought your ropes for us to use. I only have two, so bring yours!!

For those who can bring a rope and/or gear, or would like to help/learn to rig top ropes, please meet me at 7:00 AM at the top of the rock face, towards the left side as you face it.

Walk up that small trail, and you'll see me at the top. I start setting the rigs at 7:00 AM, so be on time.. and be awake! Have your harness on, and be ready to rock n roll. You'll need about a 10 foot leash to clip in, just for the extra level of safety. If not, I'll have you clip in to one of mine.

Static rope 9.5-13mm for anchors preferred over tubular webbing. You'll need at least 50-60 feet of it. Steel locking ovals or Omega 10 steel locking carabiners preferred for the load/climbing rope. (I can still use your Rock Locks, nitrons or Jake's to secure to the anchor bolts. Bring them!) Others who can bring climbing ropes and/or gear, but can't make the "7:00AM" setup time, please come when you can and we'll be happy to have the extra gear.

Mojito Mas Famous Question & Answer section:

Q. Why the heck is this thing a Chicago theme?

A. Because Kevin is being chased by the Chicago mob, and was shot at last time. I took the bullet for him, and it's better if everyone dresses the same, like a pack of Zebra's so we can keep him alive. J/k! Hey, the real reason... let's do something different!

Q. Can I bring my dog?

A. Unfortuneately, he or she would end up as shark bait. No dogs allowed on the beach. :( Sorry guys... and pups. Not this time.

Q. You said to bring food for the potluck. Can I bring a pasta salad?

A. Hell no. Don't give us all the squirts at 8am. "Sharts" will NOT be allowed at this event. Think that whatever you're bringing is going to be out in the sun ALL DAY LONG, so please no mayo dishes... or anything that would entice the squirties, toots, sharts, splish splashes, plops, etc.

Q. You know, if someone asks me for my number, email, facebook, contact info, etc. Should I give it to them?

A. F*&K NO!!!!!! Actually, Tripple F*&K No! Do NOT turn this event into a meat market. We're there to have fun in a safe environment for EVERYONE! So be on your best behavior. Ladies and gents, if any of you feel that someone is trying to get your contact info or make you feel uncomfortable in any way, contact us, David Potter, AND meetup headquarters immediately.

Donations:

I'll be collecting a buck or two donation for the ropes & anchors, and to support safe equipment.

THANK YOU to everyone @ the past events who have been giving us donations for the Rope Fund. You guys are awesome!!!
