Join us for a peaceful, easy-paced hike along this shady segment of the Backbone Trail. We will travel into an old growth Chaparral forest and Oak woodlands as well as through Streamside communities.

The hike will be about 8 miles in and out with moderate elevation gain. Fit beginners OK. Depending on group -- and our legs -- we can add another mile or two and explore the sandstone formations and enjoy the views on Castro Crest.

We will meet at the Backbone Trailhead on east side of Latigo Canyon Rd. There are some bushes in front of turnout so keep a eye out for it. To get there, take the Ventura Fwy and exit Kanan Rd south towards the beach. After about 6.1 miles turn left on Latigo Canyon. The turnout is about 3 miles ahead on the left.

From PCH take Kanan Dume Rd 5.6 mi to Latigo and turn right. Or you can turn up Latigo about 7 mi from PCH (trailhead will be on right)
