Afternoon Delight on Sandstone Peak
Details
http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/3/8/4/event_126369092.jpegJoin us for a jaunt into one of the most beautiful sections of the Santa Monica Mountains with a snack lunch atop its tallest peak: Sandstone Peak at 3,111 feet. The top of the peak offers commanding views from the San Gabriels to the Channel Islands!
We will begin at the parking lot of the main trailhead to Sandstone Peak. Instead of going straight to the peak however, we will first wander farther west into the lesser traveled small valley that is surrounded by some smaller peaks. After this brief additional exploration we will return to the peak and hike up the last hundred feet or so for the view and our snack lunch. After lunch we return back the way we came -- a glorious downhill march back to the cars.
