We will begin by hiking northwest from Kanan on the Backbone Trail to the Zuma Ridge Trail. The winding trail leads to a view of Newton Falls and Upper Zuma Falls, which are especially grand after the winter rains. We will then turn south along Zuma Ridge to Buzzards Roost where we will rest, eat and take in ocean views.
Hike is a little strenuous at about 8 miles with a net 1000' elevation gain.
There is a 5-mile option for fit beginners and those that prefer a shorter hike. If you opt for the shorter option you should bring a buddy for the 2.5 mi hike back to car.
Bring 2qts water, lunch/snacks, hiking shoes
