Architecting a Future-Ready, Cloud-Native platform
by Martin Hauskrecht
Working with businesses from diverse areas and varying sizes brings its own challenges. Each customer is unique, but also has similarities. In this talk, I’d like to explain how we tackled the challenge of building a unified and reusable cloud native platform, leveraging the most cutting edge technologies.
We’ll discuss the DO’s and DON’Ts of building a future-ready, cloud-native platform, and the common mistakes to avoid. We’ll lay out the basics and pillars of our platform, with a focus on how to do it right and avoid mistakes that will cost you in the future. We’ll discuss topics like infrastructure design, Kubernetes, observability, CI/CD and many more. By the end of this talk, you’ll have a better understanding of what it takes to architect and build a cloud-native platform that is sustainable, scalable and successful.
Martin Hauskrecht: Head of Engineering @ Labyrinth Labs
Martin’s main focus is designing full-featured cloud infrastructures on AWS and Azure. Over the past couple of years, he has gained experience building robust, auto-scaled, and highly-available cloud environments for numerous customers and applications. Throughout the process, he utilizes a large set of tools and technologies, with a particular emphasis on Kubernetes and Serverless solutions, thriving on tackling challenging tasks and has a deep desire to continually learn and expand his knowledge.
Lightning-fast feedback loops for developing and testing cloud apps
by Anca Ghenade
Developing applications using cloud services such as AWS can be a challenging endeavor. The complexity, the slow feedback loops, and delays encountered during development can really challenge our patience. When it comes to testing these applications, the difficulty multiplies, particularly with integration testing or in our automation pipeline. The testing process becomes even more demanding when the apps rely on managed services. So how can we bring ease and speed to our end-to-end tests?
In order to solve these issues, we’d have to use a local setup where we can quickly spin up and deploy our services in an emulated environment that’s as close as possible to the real thing.
You’ve heard of lightning in a bottle, how about lightning in a container? This talk will explore how we can alleviate a lot of these pain points by using LocalStack to emulate our AWS service and simulate real-world scenarios for developing and testing the integration of various parts of our systems while highlighting how integration testing early on can help us identify and resolve issues in the development phase of our project.
Anca Ghenade: Developer Advocate @ LocalStack
Anca has been immersing herself in the realm of Java since her university days, focusing primarily on developing enterprise applications over the past seven years. Recently, she has embraced the exciting and challenging field of cloud development, captivated by its immense potential. As a developer advocate, Anca now enjoys sharing her learning experiences through engaging demos that bring tangible value to others, with the main goal of having successful users that thrive with the help of LocalStack.
