River Cleanup-Fish Hatchery to Stillmann

Details

It's time to take a couple of hours and paddle down and clean up the litter on the Moke from the Van Assen Launch at the Hatchery to Stillmann Magee Park in Clements. River access has been limited this season due to high flows and obstructions in the waterways.
EBMUD finally allowed access to the Hatchery areas again with the flows at about 1500 CFS. The flows will be monitored for each repeating event and will vary throughout the season but will not affect the cleanup efforts unless they drop below 200 CFS.
Bring your own boat (14' and under) and paddle with all safety gear. Personal flotation devices (PFD's) must be worn. Recommend mesh bags for trash, sunscreen(50+) for sun exposure and gloves for handling broken and deflated pool toys and floats, rafts and inlatable boats that have been lost into strainers and submerged tree remains.
We will also be collecting recycleables and trash in the waterways and on the bottom of the river as we can. Reach extenders are great for reaching stuff on the bottom of the river in the shallows.
We will be cleaning areas of fast moving water and be active in and around strainers (trees overhanging the waterway in current). Paddling skills will be required. Instructions for accessing these areas will be provided and demonstrated. Practice area at the put-in will be available for those that need it or aren't sure.
Parking fees are required for shuttle vehicles left at Stillman Magee Park $5.00 Weekday / $6.00 Weekend. No parking fees at the hatchery, so far.
