3.2 miles, 390' elevation gain
Edgewood County Park and Natural Preserve is known for its abundance and variety of wildflowers. Some years are better than others—this is one of them. Tidy tips are hosting the party, and many others attend in festive garb. Let's join the party!

We'll start at the Clarkia Trailhead (directions below), then make a loop via Serpentine, Edgewood, and Sunset Trails before returning on the Clarkia Trail. Most trails are wide, with a dirt/gravel base and gentle inclines—more sun than shade.
Wear sturdy shoes; bring water; wear layered clothing.

No restrooms at the trailhead or along our hike.

Since this is a Sierra Club hike, you must sign a Liability Waiver at the trailhead. Carrying a copy of the Local Outings Medical Form in your backpack is recommended, but it's not required for this event.

Before Europeans arrived, the Ohlone people likely used this land for acorn gathering and hunting. During the Spanish administration of California, ranchers introduced non-native grasses for cattle grazing :( The property was eventually acquired in 1967 by California via eminent domain. Documentation of the land's plant diversity led to a lawsuit opposing the proposed golf course. All 467 acres were eventually designated as a natural preserve. Scientists have worked hard to bring the endangered Bay checkerspot butterfly back to this area, but nitrogen pollution from the nearby freeway has limited their success.
Afterward, there will be an optional lunch at Buck's, 3062 Woodside Rd., Woodside. Unlike most hike/combo events, you must sign up for both the hike and lunch beforehand. See a separate Meetup announcement with details.

Directions: From Hwy 280 heading north, exit at Edgewood Rd. Turn LEFT onto Edgewood Rd, then left again at Canada Rd. After 0.5 miles, you'll see a dirt/gravel parking area just off the road.
From Hwy 280 heading south, exit at Edgewood Rd. Turn RIGHT onto Edgewood Rd., then continue as above.
