Black Mountain Hiking Huddart Park Hike

Details

Level: Moderate(2B 7 miles 1500 ft.)

Event Organizers: Diana Hall dianahall39@yahoo.com

Location: Zwierlein Parking Area, Huddart County Park

Cost: $6 park entry fee

This area was logged over 100 years ago but is now recovered second-growth redwood forest, with madrone, tan oak, and other woodland species. The hike is about 7 miles and 1500 feet elevation gain, mostly on the steady climb from the parking lot to Skyline. The route is along the Crystal Springs, Summit Springs, Chinquapin, and Dean trails. We'll walk at a moderate but steady pace, with brief stops for anything of interest. Lunch near the top; the return is mostly downhill. Poison oak, ticks and rattlesnakes make their homes in the park, so be alert and learn to identify them.

Bring: hiking boots/shoes, 1.5 L water, layered clothing, snacks, lunch, sun protection, completed medical form, hiking poles if you use them

Signup Instructions:

  1. Signup for this hike via Sierra Club site ONLY (Meetup site is for people to coordinate carpool amongst themselves. Carpool transportation is at the sole risk of the participants).
