Meet us at the Kite Flying Parking lot to journey to the Song Sparrow Trailhead for a morning of birding and plastic pollution control.
Meet at 8:30 AM, Sunday, July 26th 2026. Carpooling recommended. We expect to take about 3 hours to complete the hike.
We will be observing various species of aquatic birds, various waterfowl and avian creatures. We will also be on the alert for any plastic pollution that we can remove from the environment. We are going to be looking for nurdles, the small plastic pieces that are ubiquitous in our environment. They are tiny, multi-colored and often overlooked.
But if they end up in a birds stomach, or another creature, that animal is impaired and may perish. Its important that we learn about these, and as Citizen Scientists, become aware of them and remove them from the environment....This hike is open to all, will be about 5 miles with about 100 feet of gain.
Bring: Clothing appropriate for the weather, and plenty of water, snacks or lunch.A pair of binoculars....Large and small bags to collect escaped plastic....Meet at the Kite Flying area, parking is free at this location, but carpooling is recommended.
