We have two more exciting talks lined up for April.

Richard Morton and Anika Henke talk about how they built the GDS Accessibility Empathy Lab and how they run it.

Bryn and Rose Anderson share their experience of albinism and living with a range of eye conditions.

Talk 1: The GDS Empathy Lab - Richard Morton and Anika Henke, GDS

How we built the GDS empathy lab and how we run it. How it started from a test lab and changed to an empathy lab when we moved offices. The devices, equipment and assistive technology we have focused on. The design of the area and information it includes. How we run and manage visits for anyone from the public sector. Different ways we use the lab for: empathy, testing, persona training and persona testing. Some of the challenges we faced. And some ideas for what we want to do next, in particular encouraging others to set up their own labs and how to start small.

Richard Morton is a Senior Accessibility Specialist as part of the accessibility teams at the Government Digital Service. He focuses on building accessibility capability of government and the wider public sector through empathy lab sessions, clinics, training and testing.

Anika Henke is a Developer and Accessibility Specialist at the Government Digital Service. As part of the accessibility team she helps other teams make their services more accessible via consulting, training, testing and support. For over 10 years she used to be part of the core development team for DokuWiki, an Open Source PHP wiki engine.
