Hey A11y Allies. We’re super excited about our first event of 2020!
Talk 1: Parkinson's UK Digital Transformation (Yvette Bordley - Parkinson's UK)
Yvette will be talking about how Parkinson's UK is transforming information and support services to meet the needs of people with Parkinson's and their loved ones. Parkinson’s Connect is engaging with the Parkinson's community to design information and support services. Find out about their approach to agile, sprint-based service user involvement, user recruitment, user research and co-production. Learn how they have used in-depth interviews, ethnographies, user journey mapping from diagnosis to future planning, developing prototypes and user testing.
Talk 2: Neurodiversity in Technology (Jean-Luc Sorak - Holiday Extras)
1 in 7 people in the UK are Neurodivergent, yet Neurodiversity is still a commonly misunderstood topic.
Drawing upon his own experience of being Neurodivergent, Jean-Luc will help explain what it is like and highlight the strengths and difficulties that people commonly experience. His talk will include examples of how we can better embrace our neurological differences in technology and the workplace.
Our Speakers:
Yvette is a Senior User Involvment Co-ordinator at Parkinson's UK where she is responsible for the involvement and engagement of people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones. Carrying out user recruitment, user research and managing relationships and communications with user groups. She leads on ensuring the new services are inclusive and accessible and meets the needs of people with Parkinson’s.

Jean-Luc is a software engineer at Holiday Extras in Kent with a particular interest in modern technologies such as React, Redux and GraphQL.
A conference talk I attended some years ago initially sparked my interest in digital accessibility. I found that I was able to empathise with others due to my own difficulties with dyslexia and dyspraxia. This has since motivated me to advocate diversity and inclusion and help educate about digital accessibility within the community.
